The Steiff Museum

The little town of Giengen an der Brenz in Swabia, southern Germany, is famous as the home and birthplace of the Teddy bear. Here, lovers of the cuddly toys with the “Button in Ear” can experience their favourite furry friends in a very special way. To mark the 125th anniversary of Margarete Steiff GmbH in 2005, the company opened the Steiff Museum – a unique experience for the whole family. The museum, covering 2400 square metres, is home to more than 2000 Steiff toys. It’s a fascinating experience for children, grown-ups and collectors alike.

Calling all animal lovers! To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Steiff Museum in Giengen an der Brenz has opened the world’s biggest walk-through Steiff petting zoo. Following the renovation of the Steiff Museum, a whole gang of life-size exotic animals have set up home on the second floor, just waiting to make friends. Children can set off on an exciting adventure as they ride on life-size tigers through exotic jungles or cuddle up with giant gorillas under the palm trees.

It’s pretty long, in fact it’s a record-breaker: since April 2011, a 15-metre-long “snake” slide has slithered its way from the world of life-size animals on the second floor to the first floor of the museum. The first walk-on Steiff animal is also the longest plush slide in the world.
The outer wall of the stainless steel slide is covered with 60 sq m of green plush, which makes it look even more like a real oversized snake.

For more than 130 years, Steiff has been synonymous with childhood dreams. The concept of the Steiff Museum incorporates these values and communicates them to visitors from both Germany and abroad, who have an opportunity to spend a few unforgettable hours in a unique, dreamlike setting.
